Jim Class

Being enrolled in Jim class especially in writing class has two bright advantages. The first advantage is related to Jim. In fact, Jim is one of the funniest teachers I have ever seen in my life. He makes the class simple and useful at the same time. Honestly, I feel happy when time turns to 1:05 p.m. I run to the class gladly. Sometimes, I wish I have wings to fly to attend the class without wasting a second. Even though Jim class is after my break which means I’m very tired, and my brain can’t receive anything, he makes the class mixture of excitement, seriousness, and satisfaction. To tell the truth, I used to believe that time moves very slowly. However, this conception has changed after I have enrolled in Jim class because the time in Jim class moves like lightning. The second advantage is the improvement that I have got in Jim class. Four months ago, my writing was limited and my imagination as well. After four months, I can see the difference in my writing particularly in TOEFL test. If there was no improvement in my writing, I wouldn’t be capable of writing these humble words. In conclusion, I was honored to be one of Jim’s students this semester. All I can say is Jim class is combined of learning and fun.

Fahad’s life between Minnesota and Tennessee

I lived in Minnesota for four months since last year. I had such a miserable life in five points. First, I didn’t use my time efficiently. Moreover, I didn’t have any schedule, and I went with the flow, so my time was disorganized, and I didn’t keep my commitment with my friends. For example, I used to give my friends my word to meet at a particular time. However, I used to ditch them without any reasonable reasons. Second, my English was very poor. I couldn’t make one sentence correctly when I came to Minnesota. I remember that one of my friends used to be my interpreter in the airport. He translated every single word when I wanted to finish the migration process. Third, my social life used to be limited. Although there were many activities in Minnesota, I didn’t attend any one of them. Furthermore, I didn’t hang out with my friends. Fourth, my food used to be unhealthy. I used to eat outside instead of cooking at home. Applebee’s restaurant, as an example, was a main thing during my day. My dinner usually used to be in that restaurant. Moreover, the waiters there knew my usual order, so I didn’t have to make any effort to order. Fifth, I used to spend my money impulsively. I didn’t have any budget to control my purchases. Moreover, I used to buy a lot of things that I didn’t need. For example, even though I had a lot of clothes, I used to go shopping for clothes which affected my financial status.
Since January 2009, I have moved to Tennessee. I decided to start a new page in my life to pacify myself, so I have worked hard to change those five essential points in my life from the worst to the best with high motivation. First, I use my time efficiently these days, and I put my daily schedule that organizes my life. Moreover, I feel my life has become more comfortable than before. Second, my English has improved a lot compared with Minnesota’s days, so I can depend on myself when I want to communicate in English. Third, my social life has become more active. I participate in the activities in Vanderbilt University with my friends. Fourth, my food has become healthy, and I cook at home instead of eating outside. Fifth, I put a monthly budget which protects me from getting into debt. Furthermore, I arrange my purchases, so I don’t buy things that I don’t need to. All in all, those changes in Tennessee have made my life better than it used to be in Minnesota.

My Spring Break

My spring break was mixture of the happiness, adventure, injuries, and a little bit of studying. My friends and I planned to travel to the smoky mountains. In fact, I wasn’t enthusiastic for this trip. However, my friends guaranteed that this trip will be the funniest trip in my life. After a while of thinking, I changed my mind, and I prepared myself for the trip rapidly. In next day, we were ten who decided to go to the smoky mountains, and we were divided into two groups with two cars. After that, we moved to our destination depending on the GPS. In our way, we enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenes and taking a lot of photos. After three hours, we arrived to our cabin, and everyone was trying to choose the convenient room. Fortunately, I was late, so my room was the home theater. Actually, no one thought about the home theater except me. The home theater has a projector which helped me enjoying seeing movies while my friends were sleeping. In our staying, we had a lot of fun, and we dedicated few hours for studying as well. Moreover, there are three special things which we did during that trip. First, we went to ski without taking any lesson, so you can expect any kind of injuries. Second, we had a soccer competition by playing PS3 which was very competitive and fervent. Finally, we enjoyed doing barbecue with the spectacular weather. After three days of having fun, we came back to Nashville with full of energy to start our school gladly.

Medicine vs Mechanical engineering

Being a doctor was my first aspiration when I was in high school. However, this desire or dream has taken a different way for two reasons. First, Studying medicine takes a long time. Moreover, the creativity in medicine is less than the creativity in mechanical engineering which is my future major. Second, no one encouraged me to be a doctor, even though my teachers and friends told me that” your look is appropriate to be a doctor.” In conclusion, my dream has changed from the medicine to mechanical engineering.

Goals and Inspirations

Everyone in this life has many goals in different sides of this life. For me, I have two sides which are my educational life and my social life. In educational life, some of my goals were achieved such as graduating from high school with high GPA, and being involved in SABIC scholarship which is the most successful scholarship in Saudi Arabia, and it is dream for every person has great inspiration. Fortunately, SABIC has made the foundation year program which prepares us to overcome the university’s obstacles easily. Consequently, I have many goals which I need to achieve during this program. First of all, improving my English proficiency is on the top of my goals. I remember when I came to the US, I couldn’t make one sentence correctly. Moreover, in the airport, one of my friends was translating for me. Second, increase my knowledge of science. Third, getting high score in TOEFL and SAT tests. Fourth, learning how to manage my time efficiently (this goal was achieved by Sarah’s class). Finally, discover the American lifestyle and the life in Nashville because I might be enrolled in Vanderbilt University next fall. Furthermore, I have future goals in my university life which are getting high GPA, participating in the activities and organization, changing the stereotypes about Saudi people, and making relationships with others. On the other hand, my social life has many goals. Making my parents proud of me is on the top. Second, being successful in my relationships with people. Third, take a trip around the world. Finally, I’ll get married, and I’ll spend my honeymoon in Hawaii or Maldive Islands. To conclude, the person without goals as a boat without destination, so we need to set goals in our lives and struggle to accomplish them.

My Worst Exam Experience

When I was in a high school, my physics teacher challenged me and my friends by “ open book exam” which we could use our notes and books to answer the exam. He said “ you will have an exam tomorrow and you can guys open your books to find the appropriate answers.” We were exited and glad. At exam’s night, we didn’t study very well. Moreover, we went to have a dinner and fun together. In short sentence, we didn’t care about the exam. When the zero hour came, We were confident to get full marks in that exam. The teacher gave us the exam, and we expected finishing the exam in 5 minutes. However, the results were unexpected. That exam was the hardest and worst one I have had in my life. Even with the books, I couldn’t answer one question correctly. I got 0 out of 15. The results weren’t satisfactory for me. That was our fault because we didn’t prepare for the exam. I have learned from this experience, and I hope that won’t happen with writing’s quiz.
